Lemon Zebra is the creative studio of Western Australian artist and designer Justine Playford.
Bold black lines, naïve shapes, and a commitment to keeping things simple yet colourful in a sophisticated way form the unmistakable JUST signature style. The work is playful but thoughtful — designed to feel fresh, optimistic and timeless rather than trend-driven.
Lemon Zebra will always be a working studio where prototypes are in constant progress and experimentation is part of the process. New ideas are tested, materials explored, and technologies in print and media pushed forward as part of everyday practice. The studio is not just a place where finished products appear, but where ideas evolve — drawings becoming objects, and objects finding their place in real life.
At its heart, Lemon Zebra sits in the space between art and product, creatively pushing the limits of what each can be. The aim is simple: to make pieces that feel meaningful, approachable and part of daily living, not something separate from it.
Because art should live in our environment
like flowers belong in gardens,
and jewels belong on fingers.

Lemon Zebra launched with our now-iconic ceramic wall tiles in 1996 and we’ve sold thousands across Australia and New Zealand.

From hand painting tiles in the 1990's,
to training painters in Sri Lanka,
to printing tiles in
Indonesia,
to supply Bunnings Australia, from 2002-2012.
All of the designing, plastic casings and
labour was done in
in our Fremantle Studio Warehouse.
